2008 GTQG QUILT SHOW CHALLENGE

To all quilt guild members: I get Ami Simms newsletter and I am fascinated by her idea of raising money for Alzheimer's research by having quilters everywhere make small quilts (9X12 inches) and auctioning the quilts either online or live at quilt shows or exhibits. All the money raised goes toward research, none is kept by Ami. It is entirely a volunteer operation. Ami Simms has given permission for our guild to have an exhibit of small quilts (9 x 12") at the 2008 quilt show. The quilts will be made by who? US, of course! These small quilts will then be shipped and donated to the Alzheimer's Art Quilt Initiative for auction.

There are a few rules:
Size - No larger than 9 x 12 inches
Embellishments must be of the kind that will not be ruined in shipping.
Quilts can be art quilts or traditional but if you use a pattern or design from a pattern you should ask permission of the designer and include this written permission with the tiny quilt.
Quilts must be registered with certain information. I will furnish a form for this info at a later date.

So get your thinking cap and come up with a good idea for a 9 x 12 (or smaller) quilt. It can be in memory of, or dedicated to someone special who has been affected by Alzheimer's. We will have a special display of all the Alzheimer's quilts at the quilt show. Linda Taliaferro has agreed to help me with this project as each quilt has to be registered before shipping. You do not have to worry with this aspect. You just make the tiny quilt no larger the 9" x 12". We will do the rest!

If you have a computer you can go to Ami Simms website and read more about this great project.  Contact Carolyn Slack with any questions.
