In 2005 we gave away 32 quilts and sold 27.  We made cash donations last year, after the quilt show, to Casa, Some Other Place in Beaumont and the United Board of Missions in Port Arthur.  These are the same organizations who received the majority of our quilts.  We give quilts to individuals if we learn of the need for a quilt.  Two of these were given to a mother and her son who were leaving an abusive situation and were not able to take anything with them.

Patriotic Contribution 2005

Recently the Happy Scrappers Bee sent a Quilt of Valor to Walter Reed hospital in Washington D.C. to be given to a wounded soldier. The quilt was started at the program in July but was delayed in its completion because of Rita. A simple red, white and blue pattern with 4 large stars was created by Cathy Lempa and worked on by various Bee members. It was graciously machine quilted with stars, etc by Ruth Richmond. It will be interesting to see if a note is received from the quilt's new owner.

Doll dresses were delivered to United Board of Missions. They were greatly appreciated.

Community Service from Hardin County.

Hardin County quilters furnished 36 quilts to the Veterans at DeGeorge Hotel in Houston.  They gave comfort to a Rita victim who lost everything, but now has a quilt to wrap up in and feel comforted.  The Bear Threads bee made a "Heart Quilt" to be raffled off in Houston to help with expenses of families with heart transplant patients.  And they gave to the Boys Haven project.
