2004 Community Service Report:

We were so happy with the members who so readily responded to our request for help with our Community Service Project in completing quilts for those in need. We are blessed with so much and we need to share our wealth of goods and talents with those less fortunate than ourselves. With your help we can accomplish so much. At the present we are giving our quilts to the United Board of Missions in Port Arthur and feel that they are carefully placed where there is need. We have also donated to Family Services for Battered Women but if you know of a need, please tell us. We are starting early dressing our dolls this year and will be passing around the three dolls. So, if you would like a doll to keep for a month, contact one of us. If you wish to dress dolls for Christmas the pattern being used is Simplicity #5733.

Boys Haven Quilts

We have been making quilts for the boy's twin-sized beds. The quilts are a minimum of 60 X 80. These quilts are very important in the lives of the boys. It is estimated that we will need 12 quilts per year. Fabric and batting is usually donated. If you would like to be a part of this, either watch for upcoming announcements as to workdays or let chairmen know in what way you would give your support. If you would like to donate good quality cotton fabric that would be suitable for boys, you may bring it to the meetings. After a donation of 25 quilts in the near future (2004) this will bring our total of quilts for this group to almost a hundred. Contact Kathy Worden or Carol Taylor for more information

On Wednesday, February 11 2004, we presented 20 boys with quilts. Each boy's name was written on the label inside of each quilt presented. Reactions from the boys ranged from quiet smiles to hugs by some of the older boys. All appeared very pleased with the quilts they selected. Nine quilts were left over to begin the stash for new boys when they arrive. The boys appeared to especially like the quilts having anything to do with sports or animals such as deer, etc. We will be contacting each bee to solicit a future donation quilt for this project
